Just wanted to say that my Tamworths have gone off to the abattoir this morning. I'd worried for ages about loading them into the trailer but they just went straight in, no bother. The most difficult thing was getting the trailer near enough due to poor access on our land, but a good friend and a Landrover sorted it out! There were of course stresses and strains in looking after them but it has been a wonderful and, might I say, a life affirming experience for me. I shall miss them :'(

I dare say they had a sweet life and a quick end, Lisa. Enjoy the results and plan for the next weaners!

Well done Lisa,
it's a big day in your smallholding year. Sounds like you really enjoyed them too which is what it's all about.

someone told us..get some more wearers before the others go..this way, you are not looking at an empty pen

I would say that depends on a few things....
do you want to keep more over winter when it isn't as pleasant?
is the meat just for yourselves or do you plan to sell it? (with another couple of weaners thats a lot of meat)
Have you got more land? It may be a good idea to rest their patch for a few months
If you are happy with all of that then go for it

we will have a new area..so not a problem for us…but all good points sally
