My three are not tame at all - which would be the best to have on them with if I need to catch them - a collar or a halter? I went in with some bread today and one was interested, so I spent a bit of time there. I would like to be able to lead them eventually.

I am not keen on halters for use at home - ok for shows. The reason being, as with my ponies too, its very easy for them to catch a halter on something, and I have known of ponies having their eyes damaged doing this. Goats as you will know are inquisitive, and stick their heads in places they sometimes should not, and halters can get tangled.
Some of mine wear collars, some don't, The big billy wears his collar all the time, but I am careful there is nothing to catch it on. This is a security measure, and I can grab him quickly if need be ....
Its personal preference, but I find collars are better for us anyway.

I'm the same, never use halters. We use collars to show in, and our milkers wear a collar all the time as they need to be handled at least twice a day to be milked. But generally I don't like to leave collars on kids and goatlings for two reason. 1- they're more likely to get tangled up in something, and 2- if they live together, they chew each other's collars! I don't waste money on letting a goat chew a collar if I can help it. The milkers aren't so bad at collar chewing, or at letting it happen to their own collars.
Oh and the billy has a giant leather collar he wears all the time. Thats so there's something to grab him with, though he does have a beard!

Mine wear collars all the time, and were more intersted in chewing their eartags so far... I am planning to have collars for the kids, but only when I need to lead them. I dont think I know anyone who uses halters on their goats.
