Title: Unique? Jersey Pig Stys
Post by: nutterly_uts on August 13, 2015, 06:23:05 pm
Not sure if these are unique to Jersey but thought I'd share a traditional Jersey pig sty set up.

They are usually found in blocks of 3 or 5 (These are 2 of 5) and are granite. I can get additional views if anyone is curious but they are a house with low doorway and opening out into a granite yard - there is a build in water trough, but also a feeder underneath the "window" style feeding shoot.
My Gran used to tell us you'd put a baby pig in, and know when to butcher him when he struggled to fit through the doorway

Not how we'd keep pigs today but a nice bit of history I think :) I'd quite like something similar for  isolation pens I think!

I should add these are no longer in use for pigs (but for storage) and its getting harder and harder to find them in this condition, hence the pics :)
