Title: The Sheep Book for Smallholders - Tim Tyne
Post by: m3joeEm on August 11, 2015, 02:51:03 am
I am relatively new to sheep, I bought 39 draught ewes (down to 28 with culls ) last year and now bought 42 more suffolk x mule hoggets this year and am very interested in sheep. Was looking for a book to read that is both very useful and practical for sheep management, yet is interesting to read from cover to cover. I am wondering if anyone here has this book from 2009 and if so would they recommend me to get it 6 years on from publication or is it outdated?

Definitely not outdated. Unless you know something the rest of us don't!

Superb book. Sheep haven't changed that much in six years  :)

You might have to wait a week or two to get hold of a copy though, since it's currently being reprinted. From another thread (http://www.accidentalsmallholder.net/forum/index.php?topic=63854.msg523369#msg523369):

For anyone who's been having trouble getting hold of a copy of  The Sheep Book for Smallholders? - it's been temporarily out of print due to restructuring of the company that publishes it. However, it should be available again, in all the usual outlets, from early August.

Tim Tyne's book is excellent.  Another good one is The Sheep Keeper's Veterinary Handbook - Agnes Winter and Judith Charnley (both vets).
