-
Not in the post Have you seen the latest Chef a quid short of a Grand.£999:00p for a Kenwood Cooking Chef Major I see Nisbets are offering it for £849:99p for a food mixer and I dare bet none of my tools fit :D ;D :farmer:

A simple veg peeler, im just no good doing it with a knife! ::)
-
1. 10" chefs knife
2. Sharpening steel to maintain the above
3. Butchers block
4. Large stone pestle and mortar
5. Cast iron 12" skillet
6. Heavy bottom 10" saucepan
I do almost all my cooking with these! Everything else is a luxury!
-
Yes it was on RCF.Cant remember what I put then, but today it is my kettle!! ;D Hermit
-
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Karen We cannot manage without a kettle.Question Can you buy a Russel Hobbs S/S kettle up your way.All but all of them in Gy is jug or that bluddi silly shiny dome thing cannot find a proper R/H kettle any where has R/H stopped manufacture?
-
given up with electric kettles they dont last long im sure there designed so they blow up just after its out of warranty, we now use a volcano type kettle, enamel metal that goes on the gas ring, electric kettles use vast amounts of electric to boil
-
Hello GC we had a proper gas kettle for years until it finally expired weighed a ton where I'd brazed the zigzag fins back on the bottom. The conventional kettle in my opinion is far far away from being efficient on a gas ring. Many years ago we lived in a cottage with a AGA and we had a AGA ali kettle that held a gallon of water kept on the top warm all the time Just lift the lid and push the kettle across boil in moments Now lets see a nice two lid 3 oven AGA £6/7 grand even a genuine kettlee is 60 quid :( :o :farmer:

My Diamant Stone deep frying pan (I think they call it a saute pan). I use it nearly every day, not just as a frying pan but for casseroles, curries, paella. I love it so much, I have two! The handles are removable so it's great for throwing in the Aga.
-
My kettles are Aga ones....vintage off ebay. I used to bid on them all the time but never got one. Then we bid on two and got them both! A lot better than a leccy kettle. I dont even have a leccy toaster, not very good with things that are attatched to mains electric. I have an old telly that has been passed around friends as they have got new and when that goes I dont even want a telly.(laptops are exceptions to the rule) Hermit

Wots toast hermit? Not that absolutely dried brown stuff that some people try to catch as it flies earth wards after being launched.Mine is 3/4" thick speared on a long prong held in front of the fire. Then covered wi best beef drippin and all that black snotty stuff outta the drippin tin on Sunday eeeeeeeeee!Same wi baked potato they dont come outta microwave in my world :D :yum: :farmer:
-
I have a barbeque, beef burger cooker thing for my toast. Official Rayburn versions are £40.00, B and Q barbie version a couple of quid. You just lay it on the top and put your home made 1/4 "thick slabs inside the mesh holder. We had to buy a loaf of bread the other day from the mobile shop as the yeast I bought was an empty packet(told Allinsons and they sent me enough flour and yeast for 8 loaves, three recipe books and my money back!!) The complaints I got about plastic bread and comparisons to roof tiles, the toast actually curled up at the corners. Karen
-
I am a sucker for kitchen nic-naks another good tool is my potato peeler I see there is a ceramic bladed one now and my fabulously expensive silicon spoon is now 10 a penny I also like my silicon fish slice? The SD252 breadmaker is wonderfull I think it is far superior to the first MR one we had.Talking of flours Karen is there a Lidl near if there is try their Bread Flour its in a Green bag and 61p 11/2kg today as opposed to Red Plain Blue Self Raising.I use the Allinson dried yeast sachets and if I am about the 4 hr cook time its by far the best program.More later :D :D :farmer:
-
Best thing in our kitchen is Dan ;D
-
I have to admit my OH does most of the cooking, but my favourite kitchen tool is my Aga and also like Hermit we don't have an electric kettle or toaster. Nor do we have a microwave or a tumble dryer but have a pulley above the Aga.
What is RCF by the way?
-
My electric hand whisk. £4.99 from Argos! Can't be ar*ed to whisk by hand. ;D
-
my mum recently gave me frying pan (or was it sautee ;D) made from what I believe is stainless steel. Bliss to work with. Throw away all the non-stick rubbish! And I love my cake tin with a glass plate at the bottom - and my silicone scraper to get every last drop of batter out of the bowl - and my cd-player for audio books as I spend so much time in the kitchen nowadays... ::) :&>

Hello all Rosemary dear.Thats what Kath says but she does pluck the game for me.With this COPD the dust in the feathers is unbearablefor me.NFD do you know I have tried 2 one with a copper bottom and one without I cannot even boil water in either terrible things but no doubt you use yours on a AGA or electric plate I use gas and the flame tends to lick up the side and turn the shiny silver a real pretty blue. Now I have 2 Tefal coated ones "Magic our Maurice"Claude used to say in another program ;D You have seen them on TV the pan with a Red Spot in the bottom absolutely superb in my kitchen.Sage I have a Braun Blitzer a gift from the No5 son and his wife It is the complete kit the engine detaches from the tools and it's main attachment is a roto chopper (blitzer)whisk beater a jug with knives in it makes my smooth pattie smooth like bought stuff wonderful.I also have a toy chopper we call Ethel because Kath's sister Ethel gave us the bluddi useless thing she said. It makes bread crumbs a treat Place some stale bread pieces and some cheese in and make the crumbs to spread on top of any dish that needs a golden topping roast in the oven. It's just a s shaped knife in a 500ml cup that spins round Tell you about Vigo later

Actually the best thing I have in my kitchen, apart from me of course lol , is a plain old wooden handled peeling knife.
I love my cooker too as its a rangemaster with 6 gas burners/rings, 1 is a wok burner, 3 electric ovens, a hot plate that cooks burgers, chops, steaks and kebabs etc and a ceramic plate that keeps sauces/gravy or plates warm. Its quite a professional cooker really
I take the knife everywhere I go that I know I'm going to cook, that includes the special school at which I volunteer as I cook and pay for celebration lunches for the kids and teachers sometimes for up to 70 people. I love cooking BTW. ;D

Jackie the one your Mam had with the orange string wrapped around the handle.I think on refection Muther had 2 one with orange string and one all metal she has been gone many years now I would think brother Bill would get the knife drawer and upend it in the skip So they have long gone.Same as the knife cleaner Don't need that the knives are S/s nowadays Like candle sticks and Kelly Lamps to go to bedwith and snuffers Alladin Lamps They have all gone round here What use are they click and the room is lit Not take the paraffin lamp in the porch and trim the wick cos it smuuked the glass last night then fill it wi paraffin ready for tonight.Ev yer seen the price of paraffin. When I was a boy Lunns used to come on Wednesday and fill the paraffin drum we had 2 so when one was empty Muther used t start the full one Paraffin was 1/6d a gallon and if you took 5 gallons it was 7 bob instead of 7/6 Now not being very good at sums I reckon 5 gallons is 22.75 litre and at £2 a litre in the local garden center would cost £45 for a fill up with Es so Blue Its unreal I think.Am Gooin afore I upset me sen me little greenhouse heat will have to stay wrapped up in the shed ??? :farmer:
-
Yeh George you got it exactly! The one with the orange string on. ;D My old faithfull!
-
:) my kenwood at the moment but this would depend on season, I can blitz up food for baby but i also like my slow cooker
-
Yes Fluffy I cannot manage without my Chef The Little slow cooker does Kath and I and the large one if they come it also pot roasts a chicken if we fancy one :D :farmer:
-
George you definitely like your kitchen gadgets. I've got a Kenwood food processor, more than 10 years old now but does everything I need. But it's a hassle to get out and put all the attachments when I only want to whisk up some mayo, so the hand whisk is a godsend. Like Miri, nothing electric to cook with, everything is gas flame and no microwaves either. I have one microwave, that I got off freegle, but that's purely for dyeing wool!
-
Hello agen sage I still have the one we were given as a wedding present 50 years ago we don't use it any more but I would hate to be without my Chef.I also have a Prestige Pressure cooker from the same era But I use a stainless steel one these days.Have you tried a Vigo juice extractor very usefull indeed.I am weighing up fors and againsts a dehydrator at this time ??? ;D :farmer:
-
Tell you something else fluffy Kath accidentally caught the chicken brick with a dutch oven they must be ever so stressed she hardly touched not like she hit it with a 14lb hammer but the result was the same :wave:Ta ta to it ;D :farmer:
-
I am agreeing with Rosemary, best thing in my kitchen is my O/H. What would I do without him! He used to cook a lot and is quite fanatical about having everything just right (as in herbs etc) where as if I dont have something I will just miss it out, he will go and get it. I am very pleased that he is starting to cook a lot more now, I came back from showjumping with my daughter today to Duck with all the trimmings, it was lovely and I was starving! :)
-
As lovely as my OH's food is - and he used to cook a lot more when the kids were little - I usually spent half a day tidying up afterwards, major redecorating needed each time, lol. And to be honest I rather cook myself and clean up than only clean up ;D :&>
-
NFD hello I know you won't believe me I would get Kath to tell you its true.In fact I may start a new thread in Coffee shop allied to this post.I LIKE TO WASH UP.I put 1 squirt of detergent( I'm not going to give Fairy Liquid a free ad:) in the bowl while the kettle boils.Get the dish mop pour the boiling water over the liquid and stir it up.Get the cups/mugs and wash them stand on the drainer to dry.Get the next dirtiest things and wash and continue until all is done.Should Kath wash up she puts that much cold water in it wont melt the grease off the plate, and don't tell me you don't have greasy plates at you sink.Kath all ways dries the washed crockery though I only wash. With out she is unwell of course which touch wood is quite rare but I shall be on double duty later this week she is her left hand Carpel Tunnels operated on.So when she comes home later in the afternoon she will have a large bandage on and wont want to get it wet at least she had better not ??? :( :farmer:
-
best wishes to Kath, hope all goes well - no gardening and drying dishes for a while ;)
I don't dry (and I don't iron - sth for another post ;D), just wash and put away later. It just need patience to wait until it's dry . I do enjoy cooking nowadays :yum: :&>
-
Thank you for your good wishes for Kath NFD Sorry lass I abbreviate where I can I so much enjoy computer playing with all my many pals but I am very slow on the keys I hope you don't mind XXX George and Kath
