Title: Midgies
Post by: kelly58 on August 07, 2015, 06:45:09 pm
My poor animals are being eaten alive tonight, running round trying to get away from the bloomin midgies
Anyone got any ideas what to put on them to keep them away ?  Got them in the house too !
 :chook: :dog:  :horse: :sheep:  :goat:

Garlic! Rub a cut clove on them in an emergency, otherwise buy powdered garlic and put in their feed. Yes, I know no=one will go near them, let alone midges but it does work!!

I've put a Crystallyx Garlic lick out for my sheep and they are using it.  And I carry Citronella with me and spray myself if necessary.  (And any sheep that look like they need it, and I can reach!)

The other thing that's supposed to work is eating Marmite.  I do eat more Marmite during the midgie season.

I dont think so ,found one of the milkers indoors one day watching the tv, needs must and all that , Oh Midges you mean .
Seriously though, if they are inside try a fan to create a breeze , the mozzies up here dissapear when there is a bit of wind.

Another thing could be citronella or tea tree and if its a strong pungent smell they'll leave em well alone

Photographic evidence would be required for all of us to believe you  :D
Strangely enough, midges haven't been a problem with us this year - flies and cleggs on the other hand :o
