Title: Clipping wings
Post by: morri2 on March 13, 2010, 01:46:57 pm
Help!  I cannot keep my chickens out of my garden.  They are in a fenced paddock and have full access to half an acre of woodland but all seven of them insist on leaping over the gate into my newly planted garden.  I don't want to keep them in a tiny run attached to the shed - much prefer to see them having plently of freedom but my garden is getting trashed.  Should I clip their wings?

Don't think that'll help. ::)  They jump as well as fly! ;)   You'll need to put something higher on the gate - more than 6 feet I reckon

The other option is to put netting, supported by canes, over and around your plants... That's how we keep them off our raised beds. We've got 2 big dogs so we've pretty much given up on the idea of flowerbeds and turned our growing spaces to more practical uses.

I had to put an arch over my gate , from it I hung cds, wind chimes etc and it has detered them so far. Hermit
