Am i right in thinking that you have to have a cph number even if you only have a couple of sheep/lambs??. Some one told me if you only have a few you didn't need one, not sure if they're right?
-
You need a cph number for any amout of sheep and also a herd number!
-
Thank-you Dixie, I thought you did, some old farmers seem to make up there own rules :yum:
-
Yes very important you will aslo have movement sheets and book, then and also your meds book, and a stock inventory book too.
-
Thanks hellybee, Yes i have all that as i already keep pigs, it was for a friend of mine who wants to keep a couple of sheep, a farmer told him he didn't need a cph coz of only having a couple!!, Thank you for clarifying it for me though. Do you have different herd numbers for different animals or do they all have the same??
-
You need the cph number before moving the sheep onto your land, then you can get the herd/flock number before or after the sheep arrive, its a different number than your pig herd number.

Hi
Sorry to jump into this but do i need any extra licenses for sheep as i already keep pigs and have a herd number and cph number for them.
-
Your cph number is the same. It's a different herd/flock number for each type of animal or bird.
So, yes, it will be another number for sheep.
-
Gary also the movemnet forms are different for sheep.
-
Julie and dixie thank you so is it another phone call for forms and number etc and does it take as long as the pigs? I will have to wait for my herd number before I buy my sheep I take it? sorry for the questions and thanks for the answers
-
If you are buying the sheep in, they will have the sellers herd number on their ear tag. You will use your number on any lambs you have.
I was only saying on Saturday when I collected two goats, that years ago, you just got the goats or whatever, and that was it ......now its all form filling and numbers, and all sorts
-
gary, no you can move sheep onto your land as long as you have a cph number, you can apply for flock number one you have them, all these forms is enough to put you off!
-
Thank you so much they make it so hard it nearly puts you off doing it all
