I have 2.5 acres of land, no live stock (except poultry) yet.......was looking at getting a ride on mower to cut the grass, however it maybe wise to get a medium sized tractor, then what sort and what accesories are required. To cut the grass and perhaps bale it for the future, in case I get farm animals, or next year should I just buy animals and purchase hay.
The reason I'm asking is that I don't wish to purchase anything then find out something else would have been better, oh and by the way I'm on a budget, so it won't be new(or nearly new).
Many thanks in advance of any replies.

I would get sheep and geese, they will do a good job of keeping the grass down and fertilising the land. You will need secure housing for your geese, a good garden shed will do, to put them in at night. Chickens will also keep your land in good order by scratching and fertilising.
What are you plans for your land?

The amount of equipment you'll need to buy and maintain to make hay won't make it economic on 2.5 acres, you'd be better running some sheep on it and buying in hay as winter forage.
Divide it into 3 or 4 paddocks, rotationally graze them with sheep and a ride on mower should do the job just fine.
