Title: Which chicken for meat
Post by: Martin & Catherine on March 09, 2010, 06:38:07 pm
We have a varied assortment of chickens for eggs but would like some meat birds. Which are breed are the better ones for meat. I have been told that a Light Sussex cock bird mated with a Rhode Island makes a good combination.

Comments most welcome

Thanks

We've had great results with Hubbards. Horses for courses, I think. None of our egg breed cockerels have been much use in the carcase stakes.

I've been told Light Sussex hens and a Indian Game Cock breed excellent meat birds - not had chance to try it yet though!
