Title: Genuine traditional creosote
Post by: WoodlandsDevon on July 16, 2015, 11:03:30 pm
Having searched online for genuine traditional creosote and being told it was still being sold in small quantities I decided to buy this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Traditional-Creosote-Dark-Brown-20-Ltrs-/221717698242?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item339f6796c2 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Traditional-Creosote-Dark-Brown-20-Ltrs-/221717698242?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item339f6796c2) . However when it arrived it didn't smell as strong as normal creosote and it tried  lot quicker.
Has anyone used this stuff and is it genuine traditional creosote to keep thee mites at bay?
thanks

We buy creosote in 25 gallon barrels no problem, possibly from the above link. Generally you need a holding number to prove its for agricultural use but some may not ask for one, whereby sales of the stuff are still permissible.

The other stuff is Creocote Woodlands and I'm sure if that's what it was it would be labeled as such. I suspect what you have bought is a more refined and better quality brand of creosote- sure it will kill and discourage mites just as well.

As far as I am aware creosote is banned in France for environmental reasons. They don't have wooden coops down here anyway, although the first Chinese units arrived in one of the shops last year they don't seem to have sold any yet. Hardly surprising, because none of them have any ventilation facility so any chickens in them will either cook in the nest box in the heat of the day here, or suffocate overnight!

We bought a small, cheap coop a couple of years ago which turned out to have been made in China.  It warped and all the screws and hinges rusted within a year.  We still have the weldmesh though!
