Title: New goats have arrived
Post by: fifixx on March 06, 2010, 11:32:02 am
I got my first 3 goats yesterday - cashmere cross boer and they are all in-kid.  I am a bit nervous about kidding, hopefully they will tell me what to do if necessary!  I am armed with lots of info and a helpful vet, so fingers crossed...and of course this forum!

Here they are!  They seem to have settled in OK - the only thing I have noticed is they are itching and scratching a lot this morning - could it be the straw or is that a normal goaty thing to do in the morning?

They're lovely!
check for creepy crawlies in their hair (fur?!) but if theyve just woken up, they'll be in need of a good ferk!

You also might want to take a stool sample and get it checked for worms, before they go out and drop them on your pasture. Your vet can get this arranged for you, and then you would also know what (if any) wormer to use.

Also have they had any of the clostridial vaccines before, and got their pre-kidding booster? Mine were done with Lambivac last week.

I am registered organic with the Soil Association, and although the goats are not organic, their kids will be.  Need to check what they have had before arriving with me!
