Title: Grass cuttings

Is it possible to feed grass cuttings (lawn mowings) to cattle?
It seems a terrible waste and the grass from a freshly mown lawn - especially mine which is a jungle - smell delicious.

I dont know about cattle, but I know with goats you have to be very careful because a) it can clog together and choke them, and b) it can get hot and start decomposing from the centre outwards.
but if they had small amounts, straight away, and weren't left with it, it shouldnt be so bad...

given straight after cutting and being spread out as much as possible should be fine. it also depends on the type of mower, if the grass is mulched it can cause problems

So the coarser the cut (the longer the grass) would be better?
That's great news - solves two problems.

Sorry Muc I seem to have misunderstood the question.I thought you meant lawn clippings ex the mower box not some from a heap some where I always used to empty the box over the fence.Tell you a little true story They knew what was about to happen when the mower started and sauntered over ready. :D

So just chuck the cut grass straight from the mower over the fence. I'll give it a try - when the grass starts to grow.

Thats what I did  and they love to move it about and eat the best bits although it all looks the same to me

Hello Farmer They do dont they push them about with their nose like pigs ploughing Only in the clippings I mean not in the soil.You will have to let me off if I write in the muck We have always refered to earth -  soil as muck but always the stuff from cattle yards its the Muck Hill and you are off muck spreading Also "sink we shall etta goo muck pluggin t'morer" ??? ;D :farmer:

Y'know what they say Wizard..."where there's muck there's brass"...well all I seem to get is dirty, smelly and a lot poorer...perhaps I'm using the wrong muck!
