Title: Meat chicken
Post by: Imafluffybunny on June 22, 2015, 09:44:15 pm
I would like to raise some chickens for meat. What are the best breeds to go for?
We already have a few ex bats for eggs, could they mix?

Yes, you can mix them, but, if you get your meat chickens as babies you will have to keep them apart until the "girls" get used to them, otherwise they will beat them up! Keep the babies in a run next to the hens for a couple of weeks before you let them in together. As long as they have plenty of room they should be ok :)

Hello, i have some 60 meat chickens and i'm looking for somewhere in Hampshire that can dispatch and process our meat chickens. Could anyone recommend somewhere please?

Thanks

Ex bats are probably not the best things to cross to get a good meat bird to be honest. An Indian Game cockerel would probably be your best bet. The result won't be the sort of birds you see in a supermarket but there will be meat on them and will make a decent meal.
