Wooooooo :excited:
We've just agreed to buy a beautiful Smallholding in Wales! We hope to be in there by late August
It's current owners are not using the 15 acres for anything and haven't done for some years due to poor health but we REALLY want to slowly bring it back to life.
First (of very, very many probably) questions - do we need to get a holding number and what are the costs / benefits of such a mythical thing please?
ALL advice is truly welcome.

Welcome, from just over the border into Powys
You do need to get a holding number, see here (http://gov.wales/topics/environmentcountryside/helpandadvice/county-parish-holding-numbers/?lang=en). Getting one is free, fast, and easy. You'll probably want to do it after your sale is complete.

If it's been run as a smallholding, it's probaby already got one - you'll just need to notify the change of ownership - at least the vendor will. At least that's how it works in Scotland.

In Wales they insisted on giving me a new one even though the previous owners had one. But if they get in touch with the contacts on that link they'll sort everything out.

 Greetings from Shropshire. You only need a holding number if and when you have livestock. Good luck with the move and your new life.

Hello from near Llanidloes
Lots of help on here.
Take things slowly, take time to get the feels of the place and see what's there.
