Title: Courier recommedations?
Post by: Backinwellies on June 16, 2015, 02:03:25 pm
Hi all .... I need to post some fleeces .... anyone used a courier and would recommend them?  (parcel force costs a fortune!)

I use APC -  £10 for 10 kilos and 50p for every kilo thereafter.
If you can squash it into one of their post bags I think it might even be cheaper
Have a google and you'll find your nearest.

I have used myHermes and it was ok, dropped off at a local post-office (we are not that easy to find, so less of a hassle re pick-up) and delivered to the recipients front door. Not expensive either.

I use MyHermes. The ndifference in price between you taking it to the drop off station and them picking up from you is only about 50p so well worth it. If I remember the cost of upto 10kg is about £7.50 but very easy to check prices online.

I regularly use Interpacel, a web service generating competitive quotes from various courier services for you to compare and then book, and often cheaper than the same courier's direct quote (e.g. Parcelforce).
On some occasions I have found Collect Plus to be even cheaper (this is the kind of service where you drop off your parcel at a local drop off point but it will be delivered all the way to the recipient's address).

I regularly use Interpacel

Me too, great service. Usually end up with UPS who have never let us down, unlike Hermes...

Another vote for APC - we use them for anything we send, which includes frozen food parcels

I was quite impressed with MyHermes prices, until I saw a program about how they treated their delivery drivers. The people who deliver the parcels aren't employed by the company, they're sub-contracted and have to deliver a ridiculous number of parcels per day, even then it works out less than £1 per item delivered, it's all about targets...... If they're not being paid fairly or given job security by the company how much do they care about your goods?
(I'm not implying that the drivers are bad, but the whole company ethos just doesn't sit well with me  :()

I generally use MyHermes.  The only one I would steer clear from from experience is Yodel.
