I've always assumed people know about chicken jumpers, but then again I think only ex batt owners would know about them. I knitted one for my ex batt, the lowest in the pecking order, which had her newly growing feathers pecked off by the others. the weather was getting colder, and I just banged it on the needles, et voila, one chicken in a dashing red jumper. The others stopped pecking her and she was able to grow her feathers back. You can get a pattern off the little hen rescue:

my "butch" Light Sussex male had turned into a poof with the snow on the ground
He point blanc refuses to touch anything cold white and wet with his feet, he was walking along the fence to avoid it...a bit of a nuisance when it was the fence long the dog kennel ;D

big softy. we have had to defrost two of our banties feet there feathers were frozen solid. but a second after they were put back they were amongst the snow drifts again.
