Hello, can anyone recommend which brand of antibiotic spray we should have to hand when shearing our sheep. We have had our 6 sheep since last year and we are about to shear them now, we have invested in a good quality pair of electric shears and have been watching videos and learning about sheep positioning. Thank you :)

I'd probably use an antiseptic spray on any cuts rather than antibiotic - antibiotic is more for clearing up an established infection than a preventative I think.

Generally those would be my sentiments, too, mab - but in the case of clipping cuts, there is likely to be dirt on the clippers and hence in the cut, so it's one time it's maybe excusable to use antibiotic spray. Having said which, in our case we'll have two contract shearers powering through the flock, and it's all a bit fast and furious - if you're just doing your own sheep at your own pace, you've got time to clean any wound out properly, in which case antiseptic spray would be fine.

When ours were sheared the first year there were one or two small cuts. I was going to put purple spray on them and the shearer just laughed at me. Does everyone else spray the cuts?

Yes I tend to. Shearer looks at me daft.

My shearer uses purple spray on any nicks without me asking!! :innocent:

Use stockholm tar :)
(gloop or spray)

Yes, and so does our shearer. We like our shearer :)
