Where can I buy a 3 to 5lt milking bucket in stainless steel. Would be interested to know what others use to milk into?
-
small ones are difficult to get hold of unfortunately and many of them are too tall. I am using a second hand one I got from ebay that had been used for ice cream making
-
A lot of people use plastic buckets now. I bought stainless steel as I thought that was recommended but apparently they're necessary only at shows.
-
food-grade plastic buckets with snap-on lids for miking at home. Easily cleaned in dishwasher and also not expensive to replace once a year or every 18 months. You can get 5ltr ones over the internet.
You don't actually need stainless steel buckets at shows either, but most people have them.

petcetera- online/mail order have 5L stainless steel pails around £15 good quality and lightweight
-
The reason for having stainless steel is hygiene as the milk proteins won't adhere to the surface of stainless steel in the same way that they will with plastic.
-
Have a look at ampulla.co.uk. a goaty friend has used their buckets with lids.

I got ours from that dreaded place Amazon :innocent:

I think mine came from a brewery, but I didn't ask too many questions, was too busy appreciating the gift :innocent: .
I also find the plastic bucket that caprivite comes in is very useful (8kg i think).

You can milk into anything that will hold the milk, as long as it's well sterilised.

Wow. Thanks all for your replies. In the end I found a tall enough stainless steel stock pot that I had. It's perfect. Sometimes the thing your looking for is right under your nose.
