we have hatched some runner ducks from our 3 ducks and drake
the ducklings are now 6 weeks old and are in an enclosed pen inside the ducks acre so the ducks can see them but not get to them
the drake keeps periodically running up to the ducklings and seems very interested so we wanted to see what he would do
we let the ducklings out and the drake ran at them and picked one out it
he grabbed it by the back of the head which is what he does to the females it looked like he was trying to mate with her if it even is a her they are mixed sexes at the moment
is he just trying to mate or is he trying to kill?
any help would be great

I don't have any experience with this happening with ducklings but my drakes (I only have drakes) are mounting one of the other drakes. In fact I think they were close to killing him and I have had to segregate him. So be careful with the ducklings

every runner drake I've had has been a sex maniac!! nothing was out of bounds including chickens!! ::) :o

Ah, but chickens can run faster than Indian Runner drakes....... cue Benny Hill music ;D

Drakes are generally completely off the wall at this time of year and will kill a duck they're mating with, let alone ducklings.
