Title: Slug beer traps

Can I use anything other than beer in them, I have to put some round my brassicas but don't drink beer would cider do? Or any other suggestions?

Could support your local brewery and buy a small bottle - they love brown ale!

I would think cider would have the same effect as beer - the slugs are attracted to the ferment.  Try and let us know - I have gallons of the stuff we haven't drunk yet!

We bought a very cheap 40 pint bitter kit and keep it in a barrel in the workshop. Cost about £4.

Does the jobs with the slugs, and if you're really, really thirsty...

If you have a pub near ask for their "slops" (the wastage from drawing pints) they only pour it down the drain. Take a container with you.

I used out of date guiness that had started to taste funny, the slugs loved it though. I didn't realise there were that many living in my veg patch
