Title: Vecoxan
Post by: plumseverywhere on May 05, 2015, 06:26:47 pm
Anyone know if Vecoxan is vet-prescription only or can I pick up at an agri store?   Have a 10 week old lamb not responding to wormers and a bit greeny-squitty  but very well in himself.

Also any idea of smallest bottle available - If I have to pay the £90 odd I've seen banded about then so be it... but for the case of one animal, I'd rather not obviously!  *(Unless anyone is in worcestershire who wants to sell me the dose?  :)   )

Hi. My vet gave me a dose per lamb in a syringe, rather than a bottle.  Hope your lamb feels better soon.

I got mine in an Agri store, 1ltr and I think it's the smallest jar. Cost me 100 pound all in though. Did they get a wormer for nematodirus?

I would always go to my vet for small amounts of any medicine, saves a lot of stuff going out of date and waste. :innocent:

Definitely go to the vet.  1 litre is the smallest and costs about £100.
You'll only need about 4ml per dose, it's 1ml per 2.5kg body weight.

Plums - ask if any nearby goatkeeper has any, you will only need about 5 ml! Your vet may also be willing to give you a syringe full, but mine for example does not.

I should think it would need more than 4 to 5 ml if its 10 weeks old.

OK.... you may need 8ml... if it has been scouring it is unlikely to be much heavier than 15kgs... depends on the breed and the feeding regime.

Good point anke. Apparently vecoxan is very sore on lambs that are too young or as in this case harmful if given too much. 8 sounds good

He was a quad, very tiny.  I also have some fluke-juice so can cover him with that too after he's finished his vecoxan doses.  His brother died of joint ill but this one has been quite well and active, just a bit squitty.
PS. vet never rang me back - I called at 9am yesterday... just as well a friend came up trumps or I'd be playing chase the vet today.
