Title: my first ever lambs born this morning....
Post by: bloomer on May 03, 2015, 11:31:18 am
Of course uppity Ura the worst behaved ewe in my flock decides today in the worst weather in a month to have her lambs...

born around 8am this morning, not there at 730 and by 9.30 up and clean and fed.

Twin Black lambs no idea of sex yet as this ewe won't let us within 30 yards on a good day (today is not a good day)

Have watched both sooking for all they're worth tails wagging like crazy...

By 10.30 she had them tucked up in the most sheltered corner of the field in behind some rocks and against a stone wall out of the worst of the weather...

She may be a pain but she appears to be an awesome mama...

Only vague concern is her lamb from last year is being very nosey...

:yippee: :yippee: :yippee: :hugsheep: Well done Bloomer.

The mum will keep the last year's offspring from being too much of a pest, and it's really good for the hogg to see what she's going to produce next year, and what to do with them.

With this type of ewe, the only time you can get near is soon after they're born, which is when you check sex and iodine navels, maybe ring.

Well at my after lunch check I went up to them and caught one up and got a good look at the other so I am really pleased that they are both male. As I wouldn't want to keep any ewe's off Ura for my flock :-) it saves me tough decisions :-)

I hope you got them ringed there and then... you won't get the chance to catch them again for while...

And today, bestest, friendliest (easiest bribed) ewe has had twin girls, looks a black gulmoget and a moorit gulmoget! These 2 will be strong candidates for flock retention!!!

If you want to get rid of her try selling her to a farmer who keeps commercial ewes, they would be glad with a ewe like that, as she is such a good mum. Congrats by the way. My first lambs were born on April 1st.
