Title: My first early purple orchid
Post by: pgkevet on April 30, 2015, 12:33:58 pm
And by first I mean the first time I've found one on my own land.. lovely deep purple flower spike and dark spotted leaves.
I have many hundreds of common purple pyramids come summer and I heard there were several vrieties on this land but in my fourth year this is only the second variety I've found. And it was alucky find after plodding up far field hill dog walking. If you could get a mobile signal around here i might have had a camera..

..took dog for another stroll up far field hill and found a whole cluster of the orchids.. 20 total. It's an area under the hedge line that we cleared winter before last (from my predecessors neglect). It took us nearly 2 weeks to cut out all the fallen stuff and cord it up.. two tractor trailer loads came from that area.

I did have the phone camera with me this time so I'll try to load some pics later but daughter has nabbed my big camera for her internet business so pic quality limited.

How lovely  :)  We had lived here for 19 years before we found our first orchids, just the common mauve ones though.
