Title: New Smallholing
Post by: Scorzeze on April 20, 2015, 06:15:47 pm
Hello,

I have just started a Smalholding on land next to my house.  I only have chickens at the moment but am thinking of getting ducks and goats soon.  Other ideas I have are to open a petting farm or open a cafe or maybe accomadation for tourists on the site, does anyone own a Smallholding with a cafe?

Any help / advice appreciated.

Thanks

Hello and welcome.   I love hearing about all the newcomers to smallholding.  When we started out there was no such thing as TAS...in fact I don't remember there being such a thing as the internet, so getting info was a challenge.   Good luck (and don't forget that a petting farm will probably need PP, toilets and insurance).

Welcome. I have no experience with Café/tourist etc but can imagine a huge amount of regulations to comply with. I personally am going to keep my little patch of heaven to myself and my friends/family  :relief:

Good luck if you do go down that route though.

Hello and welcome from  :sunshine: Carnoustie

I'd speak with your local EHO - there are lots of regs around petting farms. Not sure where you are but contacting FACE (Farming and Countryside Education) in England or RHET (Royal Highland Education Trust) in Scotland might be helpful.
