Title: Working dog insurance
Post by: Moobli on April 19, 2015, 02:10:04 pm
Does anyone insure their sheepdogs?  I don't as a rule, but am looking to borrow a friend's dog over the summer as our best working dog is injured, but will only do it if I can insure my friend's dog.

I'd be interested to know if you find any company offering working dog insurance for vet bills. I search a few years ago and couldn't find any. dogs trust cover 3rd party liability but you may have that already on your farm policy.

Sorry I haven't been back sooner (we are lambing just now).  No, I couldn't find anyone to cover vet costs.

When I had working dogs I could not get private insurance for them as I didn't own them.  Then when they were retired to me, the offers from insurance companies were ludicrously high :o :o with masses of exclusion clauses.  In the end I just had to shell out for all vet costs.

Maybe worth a phonecall to either your vet (if its a rural vet), Nfu or your current farm insurer?

Good luck with the search!
