Anyone know anything about cars? Skodas in particular? Took ours in for routine service (no issues, just a service) and on the drive home the yellow engine light came on. It has 75,000 miles on it and its around 7.5 miles home so a 1:10,000 chance of it happening by chance.
Garage say that it cannot be anything they have done, also that the £195 service should not be expected to pick up the fault. I took it back for them to look at and paid another £150 for a new tyre etc since it was in again anyway but was also charged £25 for plugging it into the computor to look for the fault. Apparently they should have charged me £75 for this as it took longer but out of the goodness of their hearts they have not.
The light is still on.
Anyone on here a mechanic? Skoda mechanic??

I used a lot of duck tape...
get a bit of black tape and cover over the light if I was you...
I would lol but it was the worst car I ever owned in my life!!

I had this problem with one of my cars, I can't remember what it was though, but I think it was something to do with the electrics. Are there any other garages in the area?

My advice
Vag com lead and software off ebay (less than £10).
Attach car to laptop
google error code (or get an app for your phone)
fix problem (if needed)
Use vag com and laptop to switch off the irritating dash light!
seriously my vag com has saved me hundreds on my skoda and my golf andI am average a best at both cars and computers!

could be a number of things, and many not really to worry about…Orange is more of a warning where red is..you have trouble …. ;D trust me on that one, my dashboard looked like blackpool
the garage are more than likely right, i wouldn't have thought a oil change would set off lights..it may be a timing belt warning light, as many cars have a 75000 mile -100,000 built in alarm
that seems like a lot of money for a tyre…but i'm tight

My Zafiras both had a light that came on, sometimes went off again and sometimes stayed on, paid Vauxhall garage £35 once to reset it - then just got used to it - it's a faulty sensor, they said.
Agree about the tyre - £50 to £70 for mid range tyres for my Zaffies. Dacia Logan much the same.

When they plugged it in to check for the fault what did it come up with?

I had the same thing happen with my Saab. Post service, warning light on. Took it back and they'd accidentally knocked a wire off the sensor when changing the oil filter. They charged me nothing and apologised.
I'd change your garage if I were you. Find an independant VAG group specialist.

we had a little V.Corsa for a while, coming home one day the engine management light came on, it lost power and died, I walked the last half mile home. walked back later it started and ran home fine. It did this a few times over the next few weeks. one day I realised the back window heater was on, turned it off, realised a few weeks later there hadn't been a problem since then. so yes I tried switching it on again, it died again. Nice little car if I didn't use the rear window heater.
Don't know if this would give you something to think about?
Your garage doesn't sound very helpful, does seem a bit odd straight after the service. wonder what they did service????

As others have said, a service could have led to a mechanic accidentally dislodging a wire or replacing a filter or spark plugs with a new item could have changed the air-fuel mix or composition of the exhaust gases enough for the sensors to detect a problem, quite possibly with a different component, or just brought a sensor to the natural end of its life. Replacing dirty oil with clean might well change the oil pressure slightly, perhaps enough for the oil pressure sensor to decide there is a problem.
Whatever the reason, the garage should have been able to make a stab at identifying the problem for their £25 charge (which is surprisingly low for a computer check by a garage - as Moel says, doing your own check can save a phenomenal amount)

my son's Corsa was just the same! A red light kept coming on....some sensor to do with the driver's seat belt. it thought the seat belt wasn't engaged when it was. Im afraid we never got it sorted...there's only so much money you can throw at these things.
Our 1968 MG Roadster has no electronics in it at all....so easy to fix.
