Title: which vaccine gun for sheep
Post by: Buffy the eggs layer on April 04, 2015, 01:33:06 pm
Hi,

I have been thinking about getting a vac gun for my flock. I always fin Sub cuts tricky and wondered which one anyone could recomend. I think that they come in either Sub cut or IM but I dont find IM jabs a problem and they dont require them as often so I think a Sub cut will do.

I understand that they are more hygenic and reduce the incidence of abscess etc

Please let me know if you use one

I bought one from Fearing this year. It's a top mount vaccinator and it cost £17.50. It doesn't sterilise the needle so I change it every half dozen or so. It's very good - I also found SCdifficult but I've done sheep and cattle with this and found it much better. It might not last long - it's plastic, but for £17.50 (or £12.50 for the 2ml one, it's great.

Thanks Rosemary

   I saw this one  http://www.suppliesforfarmers.co.uk/phillips-ezi-grip-vaccinator-with-bottle-5ml-p-6204.html (http://www.suppliesforfarmers.co.uk/phillips-ezi-grip-vaccinator-with-bottle-5ml-p-6204.html)

Which seems to be full adjustable in terms of dosage. Some seem to only be suitable for certain medicines?

I use one of these http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/phillips-repeater-injector-50ml (http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/phillips-repeater-injector-50ml) which holds 25 Hep-P doses at one time.  PLus a Stermiatic kit on the end - http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/molecare-sterimatic-starter-kit (http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/molecare-sterimatic-starter-kit)  or  https://www.sterimaticworldwide.co.uk/cart.php?target=product&product_id=21&category_id=12 (https://www.sterimaticworldwide.co.uk/cart.php?target=product&product_id=21&category_id=12)

That looks like the kind of thing Im after. Seems like it would do calciject too which is like injecting treacle.

I bought a dosing gun for wormer a while back and its so much easier and quicker than messing about with syringes.

And I got a free gun for my crovect the year before and its been so much more effective than my recycled detergent spray bottle method.

having the right tool for the job makes a huge difference!

I'm interested in this subject, but please excuse my lack of knowledge of these things! I too find sub cut. injections more difficult that IM, but how do these vac guns make them easier? Do you still have to make a 'tent' of skin then inject into that? I've only got 4 sheep and generally only inject them all when I'm 'heptavacing' them, but need to give sub cut injections now and again if using Metacam. Can these guns just be used for one dose? Thanks

Hi mop

put sterimatic vaccinator into youtube. There is a tutorial which shows you how it works. The gun is set for the dose size ad draws from the bottle attached so it would do one dose.
