Title: International 454 1973
Post by: RobJJ on April 03, 2015, 08:21:10 am
Hi all,
I have got an 454 1973, all works apart from fuel gauge. I have bought a manual from flebay, but it's unclear, any suggestions?

Someone said fuse or bad earth, but I can't find any wires, sender unit......??

Any help, pictures or diagrams?

Thanks

Rob

Dip the tank with a stick to check fuel levels.

Yeah, that's what I am doing, would just like to get it working, not a drastic thing but it niggles me....

In my experience tractor fuel gauges are notoriously un reliable even if they work. Ie you have to dip the tank anyway.
We got a brand new massey 265 on the farm where I worked in about 1981...I remember the fuel gauge on that was at best a guide even when brand new.
If you are determined to fix it  I'm afraid I'm no expert...I'd suggest seeing what parts are available and replacing them one by one starting with the cheapest.
I'm guessing there is only the tank sender unit, some wires and a gauge.

Thanks, I will check out the gauge, but might just live with it

A dried up dock leaf stalk makes a very serviceable fuel tank dipper I find.
