Well done Rosemary - just seen the article about you (and the lovely Dan) in the Scottish Farmer.
Nice article.

Well at least put a link in Bloomer! (http://www.thescottishfarmer.co.uk/article/meet-accidental-smallholder) ;) I tried searching for Champion, and just ended up with photos of very expensive bulls! ;D
The move to Carnoustie to a smallholding with more land was back in 2010, and they agree that this year feels like the end of the beginning, as they are feeling fairly satisfied that the house has been completed, the fences are where they should be, and vegetable plots are looking good, animals are settled and thriving.
As I sit here in my uncompleted house, with my still knackered fencing, knackered back, abandoned vegetable plot and two sick animals today, it is hard not to feel jealous you know! :-\
In all seriousness, well done to both of you for raising the profile of smallholding as you have - I'm very glad you're there to show us how it can be done!

Lovely article, and I like the picture of your Ryelands, they are such teddy bear sheep!

Great article and I think I am  with those sheep.

Thanks for the link Womble.... great article and I salute you Rosemary and Dan!

Thanks for your kind comments. Karen Carruth is lovely and has been very supportive of the SS&G Festival etc.
I still wish I could find a way to make smallholding more accessible to young folk. By the time you've accumulated the capital to buy one, you're too physically knackered to work it ;D

Congratulations :trophy:

It is a good article.
The paper copy fills the entire inside back page.

So Rosemary - are you proper farmers then... ;)

Well, I hate the term "hobby farmer"; I think it's such a derogatory term. Trying to categorise folk is always a minefield :)

I am not a hobby farmer - I am a small-scale farmer!
-
That must make me a microscale farmer then.

Good article. Thanks for the link Womble
