Title: Porous eggs??
Post by: KahlanA on March 18, 2015, 08:24:15 pm
This hatching malarkey is really stressful isn't it!

It's our first time, and we thought we'd candle the eggs to try and learn what should be visible inside them. They were set just after lunch Monday.

Our Orpington eggs (two out of they're in particular) are very porous (you can see the splotches in daylight too but being new to this hadn't given it much thought) and at least one of the pekins are too. Is this bad? :(

Reading up on it it seems that they are unlikely to hatch, I've contacted the breeder as I'm sure he knows his stuff as he breeds a lot. Really worried now :( :(

This is also the only one with such an obvious clear bit at one end (the others seemed to move more)

Step away from the incubator!   :excited:

If that egg turns out to be fertile it will hatch just fine :)

Give it till the weekend until you candle them.

Keep and eye on your temperature, turn your eggs and stop reading things on the internet that stress you :)

Agree - it's fine. Don't bother candling anything until five days in. The clear bit is just the air sack - completely normal.
