Title: Selling Raw Fleece
Post by: JollyFarm on March 13, 2015, 03:55:14 pm
Hello,

We would like to sell some of our raw jacob fleeces to a local spinning group (the rest of our flock's wool goes to the wool marketing board) .

However, government legislation says that Raw sheep's wool is a category 3 Animal by product. It says that you can sell treated wool or hair without restrictions but what about untreated wool?

I rang our local Animal and Plant Health office and they think that you cannot sell raw fleece unless it is to a registered wool treatment plant.

How do other small holders sell their raw fleeces? Is it just under the radar?

Thanks
