Hello to you all,
First thing I want to say this is not Advert, I just want to let all you good folk out there Know that there is still a few family run Abattoirs that welcome Smallholders and Their business.
I run a little Abattoir near Whitby, North Yorkshire and we pride our self's on the service we provide to smallholders in our area.
So please keep using your Small local Abattoirs up and down the country, and together we can help each other grow from strength to strength.
Best of luck for the future.

Hi Smifffy...we'll be looking around later on in the year for a good small local abattoir but have concerns from what people have said in our area (Tyneside/Northumberland) that many of the abattoirs round here either won't take pigs or if they do they'd only accept reasonably large numbers at a time. Do you know of any small ones in our area which you could recommend? Otherwise it may mean a long trip for us down to Whitby which I'd obviously prefer not to do for their sake.

We are in the village of Egton ( famous For our Egton Show in August) I charge £55 for slaughtering and butchering pork pigs and a £10 more if they are bacon size pigs (we don't slaughter sows)
Please give me a ring or email and I will explain what paper work you will need with your Animals.

Micko there is an abattoir at Whitly bay which takes pigs, I have a friend who sends hers there and they must take small numbers as she only has a couple done at a time.

Do you have much to do with the organising of the show?
I have been several times, as we used to stay in the area about 8years ago, in Goathland, and it was a day out, same as the Danby and Ryedale shows.
I was mainly interested as i am curious to know if you know my cousin, Karen?
-
I used to be more involved with the show when i was a bit younger, but since my father retired, I haven't the time to help much now. mind we have a day off for the show and even when it rains its a dam good day out ;D
most people know every one round hear , so be a good chance I will know your cousin.

You may know the rest of my dad's family aswell, Souter. So many dotted all over

Not heard Of that sirname to be honest.
Regards Paul.

Smiffy can I ask why you dont slaughter sows?
-
I never did slaughter a lot of Sows to be honest, and coupled with the new legislation on Slaughtering Sows : as all Sows now when slaughtered need a test for Trichinella plus all the paper work added to that the cost and time etc involved for me, just being a small Abattoir did not really make it worth while.
Like most people I have enough paper work and forms to fill in as it is.
hope that makes sense.

Thank you for your reply Smiffy I now understand. :)
