We were chopping an enormous Leylandii at the weekend. Two huge main trunks with numerous other sizeable trunks around it and as tall as they get!. The first few trunks were getting hung up but we managed. The first huge trunk went where we aimed the wedge with no bother. The next trunk because the branches were all growing on the other side went away from the wedge and firmly lodged in a next door ash tree. It was too dangerous and impossible to climb and take it from the top. OH was determined not to be beaten. He started on the bottom and took a couple of sections out with the trunk just falling and replanting itself before myself and a neighbour managed to convince him it was too dangerous and there was nowhere left safe to stand to get at it. It also managed to slightly squish his brand new Stihl chain saw - embarrassing going back the shop you have just bought it from to buy replacement bits!. This all took three days of effort (including a day he had to take off work costing a days pay). Our local farmer came to the rescue with his telehandler complete with safety cage. It took him about an hour and a half to bring the rest of the tree down. He wouldn't accept any payment. I am busy baking him and his workmate chocolate cakes. Some people are just brilliant!

It always helps to be on good terms with the neighbours ;D

Helping each other out is a way of life for farming folk. I know I can always call upon one neighbour or another if I'm ever in a fix and hope they will always give me a shout if needs be. It's a comforting thought.
