I have a badger faced ram lamb which developed a strip of brown wool along his back. He was loosing condition and when he came in the wool was sodden through to his skin. It could be easily pulled out in clumps. I believe it is wool rot.
I kept him inside and once it had dried out clipped all the dead wool away. His skin underneath showed no signs of inflamation or infection so i kept him in - in pen on his own but 2 other ram lambs in same barn and a few turkeys. He has been fed on ram mix and ad lib hay for nearly 4 weeks but does not show any sign of better condition. I have been told that I should have clipped him right out but I do not really understand why this would be necessary- any enlightenment welcome!

Be patient the fleece will regrow in time. But there is probably another problem going on too which is causing the condition loss especially if the skin wasn't badly damaged. Vet visit needed I think.
