Title: Cream Legbars
Post by: MiriMaran on January 25, 2010, 04:54:18 pm
We have 2 Cream Legbars that lay beautiful blue eggs, well they used to.  They layed for a year after we bought them and we have now had a year of them not laying at all.  Do Cream Legbars have a very short laying life?  They were supposed to be POL, but looked a bit maturer than that, but don't look old now.  I'm really missing my beautiful blue eggs, but don't want to buy more Legbars if this is a problem with them.  Can anyone advise please.

I bought six and have two left. They stopped laying when they moulted about August last year - nt a sign of an egg since. I also bought them POL last Spring. I haven't given up hope and they are lovely birds, especially in their new plumage.

They are definitely my favorite looking birds, Delia is especially beautiful.  Infact, Rosemary, I think I originally found this site through Googling Legbars and sent you a photo of Delia to ask your opinion of whether she was true to her breed!  We bought her from a rather dodgy farm.

I don't like having non-productive hens, but I don't think I could kill them just 'cause they don't produce eggs.  Maybe I'll end up with 30 hens, spending a fortune on feed and then going to the shops to buy eggs! :o

lol, no such luck for me!  I've separated them into an ark to see if they are laying.  I thought that maybe they spent last summer laying away from the sheds.  Delia is looking fabulous and really ought to be laying I think.  Doris still looks like she has the winter/moulting blues.
