Title: Berrichon sheep
Post by: Sbom on February 10, 2015, 09:19:28 pm
Just discovered this breed and like the look of them.
A guy I lamb for is thinking of getting a tup to run with his ewe lambs next season as they're supposed to be easy landing sires.
Anyone keep them?

I have 3 Berrichon tups, we use them on out draft age hill north country cheviot ewes, and then keep the females to tup with a commercial sire for fat lambs.  I think they are great, the lambs are so quick to their feet and to suck.  The down side is the berrichon x cheviot males aren't as marketable as say a texel x cheviot, but worth it for what we do, as the females then produce more lambs in the next generation than a texel x cheviot female.  Quiet and easy to handle for their size, too.
