Title: neglected sheep

Hi i am in need of help .i have just come across some badly neglected sheep 3 ewes 3 lambs a tupp they are really thin .i am giving them hay no feed as yet what can i feed them to help get back to normal weight. Not to sute they will.all survive.;(

You could try introducing some luzerne granules  slowly to start with . if they're hungry they may gobble them down and choke until they learn not to rush  alternatively maybe something like beet if your local farmer has some?

Hi sorry ill have to choose my words mote carefully.i was looking for a ram lamb i heard of some havimg a couple so i went to have a look when i got there they were in a garden no grass to speak of cold wet hunched up you can see there spine and hip bones anyway the owner said she didnt want any of them just wanted rid of them would i take them away only one thing to do take them with me.only one good thing to come out of this tjey will be looked after as they should be
so as you can see i am not a rustler or anything like that.

Ah, much clearer thank you. We'll done you for rescuing them, they will stand a much better chance now.

Yup, would of done the same thing  :thumbsup: Respect ! :sheep: Hope you can bring them back  into condition, the ones l rescued took some tlc. Vet can give them jags of vits that help quickly.

You are doing the right thing with feeding hay.
Do not be in a hurry to give them concentrates as their rumens will not be working efficiently if they have been starved. If you can get feed blocks, like Rumenco, high energy ones will help to give them a boost and encourage rumen activity, as well as supplying vitamins and minerals. If you can't get feed blocks, then at least get them a mineralised salt lick.
I would wait at least a week with feeding hay before offering them anything else. Then, if their droppings are normal and they are not scouring, give them some sugar beet pulp, which is high in fibre but will give them some additional energy. If any are scouring then keep them on hay until they have dried up.

What would others think about how soon to worm them? may not be strong enough yet?

Just a quick update the sheep are looking 100% better as soon as they see me the come running over .what a turn round at first i thought i might loose one of the ewes but now the only  way is forward.no more scours  :fc: thank you for advice
