Title: Anyone have any Inlamb ewes to sell or Need extra graizing?
Post by: Coximus on January 03, 2015, 12:29:31 pm
As the title says!

Ive got far too much grass ahead of me and It needs eating off before april or my pasture will be the worse for it, especially once my grass starts growing.
Im still getting some growth Now as my land is south facing.

At the moment 10 acres of it is 6-7 inches and another 5 is a tufty mess!

So ideally, I either want to buy in a dozen or so In-lamb ewes which will help me keep on top of it and can be retained - Or let someone pop in and graze the grass off - Local neighbours arnt interested as Everyone seems to have too much grass this year - some locals havent even touched their silage/hay and beets yet and are just trying to keep the grass down.

Im based in West Yorkshire (North of Leeds).

Open to any breed really as this is more about land husbandry than anything else!

why dont you pick up some store lambs and sell them in the spring when they have growen and the price for lamb is high? will save you lambing.

The store lamb idea is probably the best option as its what the dairy boys and girls usually do, although store lamb prices were on fire the other week!

If your ok with the extra lambing and your looking to expand a bit then the buying of in lamb ewes would be the solution.

Have you seen these?

One thing to think about is whatever you bring onto your land also brings whatever bugs it has with it!

Wish we had so much grass! We are completely out. If you have the abundance of grass buy in lamb correct below, broken mouth ewes and sell them with lambs as soon as they are old enough to move. Normally guaranteed easy lambings as they if they have got to that age they are normally problem free, hardest thing is keeping them fit enough but if you have that much grass that is half the battle.

Sadly the grounds too soft for cattle, they would be quicker, But ideally your right blackinwellies.

Store prices are through the roof at the moment! Locally everyone wants stores as everyone has excess grass! and I expect that means lower prices in spring as their will be alot of good fat lambs around....

Ta for the preloved link I will contact them as they look nice.

Does your local auction mart have a noticeboard?  Might be worth writing an ad on a postcard and putting it up.
