I have my late mother-in-law's flan dish and it's the perfect size for a plum clafoutis which I want to make this afternoon.
It's made by Prinknash potteries in Gloucester and says it is microwave and dishwasher safe on the base. Unfortunately Prinknash sold up to Welsh Porcelain Co in 1997 and there is no website to get any further information.
The dish looks pretty robust and I have asked a question of a dealer on eBay but I wondered if anybody here had any direct experience. I understand that all the pottery was fired before and after glazing….. whether that in itself bestows oven-proofness on an item - I do not know.
Any expert potters out there?

If it says microwave and dishwasher safe, and does not say oven proof, then I'd say it isn't ovenproof. Sorry.
No expertise except I've ruined a good few pots and pans in my time! ::)
And I have certainly crazed the glazing on a ceramic glazed dish that looked like a casserole dish :innocent:

But then...if it's a flan dish - how do you cook a flan? In the dishwasher? :roflanim:

If it were mine, I'd be tempted to go for it.
My OH is a potter, and his considered opinion is that it SHOULD be OK.
Glazes on pots do often craze over time, and that has no impact on whether the pot is ovenproof or not.
If it says it's dishwasher safe and microwave safe, then chances are it WILL be ovenproof too. What it might not be is flameproof (ie not able to be used on a naked gas hob).
The flan dish will have come out of a kiln that's been fired to about 1250C. Heating one up to 200C isn't going to do it any harm at all.

Unless you would only ever use it specifally in the microwave , then blind bake some pastry in the oven in it . If it breaks you have your answer but no mess and you just lose some pastry !
