Hiya,  Must it definitely be petrol?  We hired a petrol splitter for a weekend and found the noise and fumes a real pain. The next time, we borrowed an electric splitter (this model (http://www.agritechstore.com/log_splitter_vario_a9_sb_petrol_engine), but with an electric motor) which was very nearly as quick and SO much more pleasant to use.

Personally, unless I really needed off-grid portability, or was splitting REALLY big gnarly logs, I'd go for the electric every time. HTH!

Fair enough - just thought it was worth mentioning though!

I've used a couple of the Balfour splitters and can recommend as well made pieces of kit.
