My lovely boss has a daughter who rides. She suffers badly with cold feet. Boots need to be snug when riding (as you all know). I have looked on the internet and came up with hunting socks but the battery pack is not in a convenient place. I am spinning wool so that I can felt some socks for her. She is a skinny little thing (sorry, she is 15) and we are worried about her. Any suggestions out there. Ros :cat: :chook:

The only thing I could suggest is ski socks, but these might be too bulky to fit under the boots. Alternatively a thin pair of socks with a thicker wooly pair over the top might help too.
I'm sure I remember seeing something about silk socks in one of the freebie catalouges in the past, but can't remember whick one I'm afraid, and don't know how good they'd be.

What about a thin pad of wheat? You know you can get them as hand warmers? They are just cotton bags filled with wheat and you put them in the microwave for a couple of minutes and they act like mini hot water bottles. THey would be dead easy to make and could be shaped to her boot?
Although they would be fine for riding if they were like insoles, they might make walking tricky.
Boots don't really leave much room for variation. Maybe its a combination of keeping her feet warm and ensuring that her legs are really warm so that the blood is warm to circulate into her feet? thermal long johns and ski socks? My daughter has jus got some of these fancy Ugg boots which are basically just sheepskin but sheepskin insoles would be good.

I've been using my Aloe Heat Lotion rubbed into my hands and feet before putting my woollen socks and gloves on....Works a treat.
I'm not on here trying to sell stuff.....but if you want more details let me know.

I d put on some nice soft cotton thin socks, topped off with some chunkier fishermens/knitted socks. I love muckboot company boots for the yard, they are like slippers to wear and also come in a riding shape :D
