A friend of mine has a sheep which has just developed a round patch of bare skin about the size of a twopence piece on its knee. I suggested ringworm, but I'm not sure, so said I would ask on the forum for ideas. If it is, how would he treat the sheep? If not, I wondered what could it be? Thank you

Ringworm usually looks like an area of raised, somewhat warty skin and bleeds easily. If it's just bare it could be a scrape or she's been grazing on her knees, so check the feet for lameness. A squirt of antibiotic spray won't go amiss in either case but remember ringworm is very contagious and can be transferred to humans.

Thanks for the reply Marches Farmer - I'll pass on the info particularly about it being contagious.

Ringworm in sheep is very uncommon and as said is crusty lessions , a bare knee or knees caused by kneeling to graze is fairly common , if it is caused by foot problems then once cured the hair will come back if its arthritis then probably always will have

Did you know ringworm isn't a worm at all its a fungle infection under the skin, the reason why its called ringworm is because it is shaped like a worm in a ring. Can't you use that cream doctors give you when you get it, or is it strictly for human use only?

Never say never, but ringworm is unlikely
