Title: Insurance
Post by: Moleskins on January 02, 2010, 02:02:42 pm
I've been looking for insurance for 9 sheep, some of the quotes I've had have been ludicrous in my opinion.
I pay less than that for the car insurance and I'm pretty sure that the risk with the car is greater than the sheep.
Has anyone any suggestions for a good company to go to that can offer a sensible policy at  a sensible price ?

can i ask where you've already tried?  rather than telling you the same companies!  Did the quotes cover buildings etc as that can make a big difference we found

I tried sometime ago, can't remember who with, this time I tried Ottery Insurance Services
£275 seems steep to me. Found these people via a Google search.
I do have buildings a pig arc, a home made shelter for the trailer and a very old corrugated shed..... in total these would only be worth about £300 so the premium figure seems way off the mark to me.

I went to Stuart Benger and Co. I pay £200 a year for a general insurance policy including public liability. It's not like pet insurance though - doesn't cover vets bills!

Have you tried NFU?  Not that I've got any sheep insurance myself (they do insure my car very cheaply incidently), but as they are the National Farmer's Union they may well be very competitive.

I use NFUS, they included the land (public liability) & sheep (third party risks if they escape & cause a road accident) on an extended home policy. Much cheaper than a commercial policy.
