Hi there, considering getting some ducklings for rearing on for meat, what breed would anyone here suggest and do they now of any available, i live in ceredigion, wales. Many thanks

I hatched some Aylesburys for the table and they would have made good table birds but they are still running about a year later as they're also very beautiful ducks ,no one had the heart to eat them, they also lay amazing huge eggs.

Ha ha ha, that's funny. I have 5 Aylesbury's and they are beautiful ducks. They love eating so much, I am sure that's their only purpose in life. My first Aylesbury lived till he was 13, he had a great life.

I think it's because they are white - they resemble Donald Duck! Who could possibly want to kill him??? ;D
-
Nice or not i wont them for dinner :D

Friend of mine swears by Silver Appleyards for eating.

Is there any particular reason for this as on research ive done so far pekin and aylesbury ducks seem 2 be the favoured choice ??? :D

our local organic freerange farmer has Barberrry ducks for meat. Apparently you only need to feed them with anything other than grass (some kind of growers pellets) just before slaughter, so they are good value. I've seen them on supermarket shelves... :&>

Sounds good, think that aylesburys will be the choice prefered by us ;D
-
...and because of their size the Muscovies are the table duck for some people. Unlike other ducks they are also great breeders. :&>

I was going to recommend muscovies although my 5 are working their way into our hearts. We might just eat their babies........... Oh my G** i'm turning into a monster. How could I eat my friends babies? - perhaps with an onion marmalade?
-
Or fava beans and a little Chianti ;D ;D ;D ;)

mmmmmmmmm :) :) :)

:) I never kept Muscovies myself, only transported some for a friend. What lovely nature they have, so different from their wilder native cousins in my garden! I might be converted at some point and get some. :&>
