Title: Seeding by feeding.
Post by: Canadian Sheepfarmer on December 22, 2009, 02:55:29 pm
Has anyone tried putting clover or alfalfa seed into their sheep's mineral supplement? Or mixing it with their grain/cake ration?

I would be interested in your findings.

I have tried this and have so far had inconclusive results. I feed my sheep ad-lib mineral and I added alfalfa seed in fairly small quantities, about 1/4lb at a time and mixed it with the mineral. The sheep eat it with no trouble and the idea is that they spread the seed around and repopulate the pasture in a very natural way. They spread weedseeds in the same manner so why not get something out of it?!
