Just thought someone might be interested .... had my pet ram lamb vasectomised (cos didn't want to dispose of him) .... used him on my small flock ....... result...
ALL 15 adult ewes served in 7 days, and 3 ewe lambs on day 8. So at this rate lambing will be all over in 10 days (instead of the 3-4 weeks of last year. :) (being optimistic that none return)
I will now be able to book in some help for that week and have a batch of lambs that should all finish together.
Lambing experience week anyone March 10th?

Hi, how much did it cost you? I'm thinking or doing the same instead of sponging next year?
-
Yes - I am keeping a ram back this year so that we can get him vasectomised in January and then have him as a teaser in future.
Vet said that it would cost about £40
-
Bill came in at £44 .... excellent value
-
We have 12 teasers out just now, find them a great help in tightening lambing time up.
-
Great that's made my mind up then
-
Ours went in last week

This is the first year I have used a teaser, I to am pleased with the results, got over 1/3rd of them tupped in the first 5 days
The charmoise seem to be most "ready" and were all tupped first, so far the rest have been the mule shearlings, mule ewe lambs are yet to come on

Sponging the ewes and having the "real" tup across a fence while sponges are in (2 weeks) does the same thing, then let him loose with the ewes two days after sponges have come out. BUT ewe to tup numbers need to be watched. Really good for small flocks.
