Title: "Stolen" sheep found?
Post by: Min on October 15, 2014, 10:03:44 am
I thought there was something strange about this story of stolen sheep when I read it yesterday.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-29612163 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-29612163)

£1000 per sheep sounds a bit much? Plus a week seems like a long time not to check on sheep. And then another week to report?

Then today I saw this!

Glad they weren't stolen at least.  :sheep:

100 sheep for 10,000 is only 100 each which is about right...

still glad they not stolen...

I don't know this individual farm's situation, but I don't think it is fair to assume the sheep were not being checked.  If you have say 1500 sheep runnning on a big stretch of hill, and are checking them daily, you would find anything with a problem, but could quite easily not be aware that 100 were not there when they are ranging over 100s of acres.

True, but as Bloomer has already noticed, my maths is a bit dodgy and it was really that which got me wondering as to why such precious sheep weren't being checked more often.

Sheep found, thankfully (always turn my stomach to see animals stolen). As you were.  :innocent:

My sheep often go loose in the village. I am always amazed how a 70 head flock can "disappear" sometimes within minutes so I also understand the relief when they became unstolen.

I frequently have to circle one of our fields four or five times in order to count mine - it slopes in three different directions and by the time you've walked one bit some of the sheep have moved.
