Title: Hi from Mangalitsa heaven!
Post by: Eldorhog on October 13, 2014, 03:41:30 pm
Hi, to introduce ourselves,  we are a mangalitsa farm that have been breeding the woolly pigs for 4 years now and we love them!  We sell piglets and slaughter our fattened adults for meat.  Our pigs are free range and are like piggy Rotavators working away turning and fertilising the land.  We do not use chemicals on our land or in our pigs and use natural remedies for any sign of illness.  We are in the process of finishing a straw bale barn for our little darlings and they are wandering around the edges getting impatient!  Looking forward to meeting people on this forum!

 and welcome from Shropshire. I'd never heard of mangalitsa before so I googled them. Love them. Do you shear them like sheep or do their fleeces not grow?

Hi Folks!

Thanks for the welcomes and no we haven't been on telly with them but we've been in the local newspapers quite a  bit  ;D
No we don't shear the pigs they moult in summer like dogs do and the wool just disappears until we've got a bald pig for a while before it grows back!
They do grow large, we have slaughtered males so far and they were up to 150 kilos with tusks, so it's good to be on speaking terms with them when getting them into the trailer!!   ;)
