Title: Help solitary quail chick!
Post by: Daisys Mum on September 24, 2014, 08:14:31 pm
Found a poor lonely quail chick in my quail house, I knew one was sitting on eggs but didn't think that any would hatch. After a while under the brooder chick has perked up and is nibbling at crushed digestive biscuits and drinking, does anyone have any chicks that he/she could join. I am going to be at Lanark on Saturday, and could bring it with me.

I have a female adult  one - do you think she would accept a  baby?  I am also getting a male from someone at Lanark.  Maybe it's not a good idea to put them all together - anyone with quail experience able to help?  What do you think?

Definitely don't put it in with a female quail unless she's broody, even if they are broody they're not good mums! Can't it go back in with its own mum? Otherwise someone with a broody pekin could take it?

We had a (very broody) quail with chicks this year, nothing like a broody chicken  :-[  And unfortunately I had been warned about their lack of mothering skills but went ahead with it anyway, silly me  :'(

Good luck, hope yours does alright  :fc: :)

I would have put it on a hot water bottle and brought along a flask to top it up!
